What if you turned noticing your blessings into a little game?

We often want to be more thankful, but everyday responsibilities can distract us from the good things happening around us. A kind word, a beautiful sunset, an encouraging scripture, or an answered prayer can easily be forgotten.

Psalm 103:2 reminds us: “Praise Jehovah, O my soul; May I never forget all that he has done.”

Gratitude Bingo is a creative way to put that reminder into practice. Instead of simply listing things you’re thankful for, you look for blessings, reflect on Bible principles, and colour in a square each time you complete an activity.

And why not invite a few friends to join you? You could turn it into a month-long gratitude challenge, share your experiences, and encourage one another to appreciate Jehovah’s goodness.

What Is Gratitude Bingo?

Gratitude Bingo turns a familiar game into a fun reflection activity.

Instead of numbers, each square contains a prompt that encourages you to notice a blessing, express appreciation, or take a thoughtful action.

For example, you might be invited to:

  • Notice something beautiful in creation.
  • Remember a prayer Jehovah has answered.
  • Thank someone who encouraged you..
  • Do something kind for another person.

Once you’ve completed an activity, colour in its square, add a sticker, or mark it with a check. You can aim to complete a row, a column, or the entire card. There’s no competition or pressure to finish. The goal is to become more aware of your blessings.

You’ll find my printable Gratitude Bingo inside the Gratitude Bundle, along with other creative resources for exploring thankfulness in your personal study.

How to Play Gratitude Bingo

All you need is your bingo card and something to mark the squares.

  1. Print your card. Keep it in your spiritual notebook or somewhere you’ll see it regularly.
  2. Choose a square. Pick one that interests you or select one at random.
  3. Complete the activity. Follow the prompt and consider what it teaches you.
  4. Mark your square. Colour it in, add a sticker, or check it off.
  5. Continue throughout the month. Complete a square each day or whenever you have an opportunity.

You can also write a few words about your experience in your journal.

If you’re doing the activity with friends, agree on a month to focus on gratitude together. Everyone can follow their own card and share what they’re learning along the way.

6 Ways to Use Gratitude Bingo in Your Personal Study

You can adapt Gratitude Bingo to your routine, whether you prefer a few minutes of daily reflection, a longer study session, or sharing the activity with friends.

1. Make It a Daily Gratitude Check-In

Choose one square in the morning and keep its prompt in mind throughout the day.

For example, if your square asks you to appreciate someone, think about a family member, friend, or someone in your congregation who has shown you kindness.

In the evening, complete the square and consider why that person’s actions meant something to you.

This creates a simple habit of paying attention to blessings as they happen.

2. Try a Weekly Gratitude Challenge

Choose three or four squares to complete throughout the week.

You might focus on different blessings, such as creation, friendships, spiritual provisions, or Jehovah’s care.

Keep your card visible and look for opportunities to complete the prompts naturally.

For example, a square about appreciation might inspire you to send an encouraging message to someone. Another might prompt you to reflect on something meaningful from your Bible reading.

At the end of the week, review your completed activities and consider what you learned.

3. Connect Each Square With a Bible Scripture

After completing a bingo activity, find a scripture that relates to your experience.

Here are a few examples:

  • Creation: Psalm 104:24 highlights Jehovah’s wisdom in his works.
  • Good gifts: James 1:17 reminds us of the Source of every good gift.
  • Encouragement: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 emphasizes building one another up.
  • Jehovah’s help: Psalm 103:2 encourages us to remember what he has done.
  • Prayer: Philippians 4:6, 7 connects thanksgiving with prayer.

Write the reference beside your completed square or collect the scriptures in your notebook.

You might discover a subject you’d like to explore further in your personal study.

4. Use Completed Squares as Prayer Reminders

Gratitude Bingo can help you make your prayers more specific.

Suppose you complete a square about someone who encouraged you. When you pray, thank Jehovah for that friendship and reflect on why the person’s kindness mattered.

Or perhaps an activity reminds you how grateful you are for the Bible, congregation meetings, or the hope Jehovah gives us.

Looking over your completed squares before praying can remind you of blessings you want to mention.

5. Create a Monthly Gratitude Reflection

Add your bingo card to your notebook and complete activities whenever opportunities arise.

At the end of the month, review your card and ask yourself:

  • Which blessing brought me the most joy?
  • What did I appreciate that I usually overlook?
  • Which of Jehovah’s qualities did I come to appreciate more?
  • What scripture became especially meaningful?
  • What would I like to continue practising?

Finish by writing a short reflection or choosing one word that summarizes your experience, such as contentment, appreciation, or joy.

6. Invite Friends in Your Congregation to Join You

Why not make Gratitude Bingo an activity you can enjoy with others?

Here are a few ways to make it a shared experience:

  • With congregation friends: Invite a few sisters to join a month-long gratitude challenge. Share your favourite prompts or encouraging discoveries during the week.
  • With elderly or housebound friends: Bring a printed bingo card during a visit or include one with a thoughtful note. Check in throughout the month and invite them to share their experiences if they’d like.
  • With children: Encourage them to colour the squares, notice blessings in creation, and think of simple reasons to thank Jehovah.
  • With family: Keep your bingo cards somewhere visible and share something you’re grateful for during family worship or a family conversation.

At the end of the month, you could get together, have a video call, or exchange messages about the activities you enjoyed most.

Sharing gratitude can become another opportunity to strengthen friendships and offer encouragement (Prov. 27:17).
