With the Daily Text Challenge coming up, I wanted to share some of my favourite tools for creating journal pages. These tools can help boost your creativity, but I want to remind you that having fancy journaling tools isn’t necessary for effective journaling. Especially if you’re just starting, it’s important to remember that what counts begins with the tools you already have.
You might be surprised to learn that you can create some fantastic pages with just a pen and paper. Limiting yourself to just a few tools allows you to focus more on the learning process.
The most important thing is just to start. If you’re new to journaling, don’t worry about fancy tools. Grab any notebook you already have and some pens, and start with what you have to see if journaling is for you.

Here are some essential tools I currently use for my journaling:
First and foremost, I use a classic grid notebook to jot down my thoughts. I find that using a physical notebook helps me stay focused and engaged in the note-taking process (but you can absolutely make your notes digitally).
Of course, no notebook is complete without a good set of pens. I prefer pens with a fine tip, as they allow me to write neatly and add small details to my notes. And because I like to add a bit of colour to my notes, I also use a few coloured markers to make my notes more visually appealing.
Last but not least, I love using decorative tapes to add some personality to my notebook pages. Washi tapes are a great way to add colour, texture, and patterns to your notes, and they are super easy to use. The best part is that they can be removed and repositioned without damaging the notebook pages. These floral & abstract ones are my favs!
Rubber stamp letters can be a great tool for journaling, especially if you want to add titles or headers to your pages. They can help you create unique and visually appealing designs, and they are also super easy to use.
A scrapbook paper is always an excellent choice for journaling because it comes in various colours, patterns, and textures that can add visual interest to your pages.
When it comes to paperwork, I find tape runners to be handy. They are a type of adhesive that comes in a handheld device, which makes them very easy to use. The best thing about them is that they provide a clean and precise way to apply adhesive without leaving any mess behind. Of course, I usually opt for my trusty glue stick when I don’t have a tape runner.
